Hawks free agent drawing interest from pair of Eastern Conference foes

The Hawks have a potentially franchise-altering offseason ahead of them.

The club is in the midst of a search for a new President of Basketball Operations to join new General Manager Onsi Saleh. Whoever leads Atlanta’s front office will have a laundry list of tasks this summer.

The Hawks will have to sign Trae Young to an extension, and Dyson Daniels should be made a priority as well. The NBA Draft presents another opportunity to improve as the Hawks own two first-round picks. Then, there’s free agency and the trade market, the former of which will feature some of Atlanta’s own.

Caris LeVert is already drawing interest from a pair of Eastern Conference foes in the Detroit Pistons and Brooklyn Nets, according to Sam Amico of Hoops Wire.

“The Hawks would like to keep free agent wing Caris LeVert but they’re well aware that he will be drawing outside interest. Two of those teams are believed to be the Pistons and Nets, sources told Hoops Wire.”

LeVert was acquired at the trade deadline as a piece of the De’Andre Hunter deal that sent Hunter to Cleveland in exchange for LeVert and Georges Niang. He was pretty productive for the Hawks too. In 26 games, he averaged 14.9 points and shot 48.2% from the field as he assumed a bit of a different role in Atlanta than he had in Cleveland.

“In Cleveland, I was more of a 3-and-D, catch-and-shoot kind of guy, and then here I was playing with the ball a lot more,” LeVert said during his end of the season interviews.

If he enjoyed playing for Quin Snyder in that role, I imagine the Hawks and LeVert will certainly try to make a deal work for both sides, but if the Pistons and Nets go further in that aspect, there’s no sense in over-extending for a bench piece, even if he was productive for the Hawks.
