After what felt like several years of speculating where he would be drafted, LaMelo Ball is officially a Charlotte Hornet, as the team drafted the young point guard with the third-overall pick. And Ball expressed his excitement about joining the team, specifically citing how thrilled he is to join Michael Jordan's team.
"Straight blessing," Ball said when asked how he felt about playing for Jordan. "For real. I don't even have enough words to say, I mean, I'm just blessed right now."

Jordan is the Hornets' chairman and he is also the team's primary owner and he apparently gave Charlotte his "stamp of approval" to draft Ball if he was still available with the no. 3 pick. Ball is considered by some to be the player with the highest ceiling in this draft class, though there are also concerns that he may not be able to perform at an NBA level.
There are questions about Ball's fit in Charlotte, as the Hornets already have multiple solid point guards on their roster, including Terry Rozier and Devonte Graham. However, neither appear to be superstars in the making and the team likely believes that Ball is their long-term answer at point guard, especially with the team losing former face of the franchise Kemba Walker in free agency last year.
Despite (or, arguably, because of) having Jordan at the helm, the Hornets have been one of the NBA's least successful franchises over the last decade. They've only made the playoffs twice in the last decade and did not make it out of the first round either time. Charlotte hopes that the addition of Ball is the beginning of their journey towards respectability.
