Hornets make changes to training camp roster

The Hornets are doing a little shuffling at the back end of their roster ahead of training camp.

Charlotte announced Tuesday that it has signed forward Trey Townsend and waived forward Josiah Allick. Townsend received a non-guaranteed Exhibit 10 contract, according to Rod Boone of The Charlotte Observer.

Allick’s stay was a short one. The Hornets had just signed him Monday, and the moves suggest Charlotte may continue using its final offseason roster spot to cycle players through before camp.

Townsend, 25, went undrafted out of Arizona in 2025 and bounced around quite a bit last season, playing in Sweden, Canada and the G League.

He appeared in 24 G League games for the Texas Legends and Salt Lake City Stars, averaging 4.6 points and 2.2 rebounds in 18.7 minutes.

The Greensboro Swarm acquired Townsend’s returning-player rights in August, making the likely endgame fairly obvious. He can earn a bonus worth up to $91,000 if he’s waived by Charlotte and subsequently spends at least 60 days with the Swarm.

So, yeah, this probably isn’t the last bit of roster shuffling the Hornets do before camp.
