Jalen Brown grabbed attention at the Boston Celtics vs. New York Knicks game, though not for the reasons he might have hoped.
Amid the fans engrossed in the thrilling matchup between the two teams, the 28-year-old found himself in an awkward moment after failing to recognize some popular music artists.
During the break, a video of the Celtics shooting guard being asked to name a few artists was played on the jumbotron; however, it seemed like he could have used a quick crash course in pop culture.
In the clip of the moment, posted online by Celtics reporter Noa Dalzell, a lineup of singers from the '90s, 2000s and the present was featured, but Brown only managed to correctly identify a few celebrities, including icons like Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Prince, Jimi Hendrix and Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny.
As for those he failed to recognize, the NBA star said he had “no clue” who they were, including Sabrina Carpenter.

The same applies to Grammy winner Chappell Roan, whom he was also unfamiliar with.
As for Missy Elliott, he first doubted if the person was truly the “Get Ur Freak On” hitmaker and said, “That’s Missy? That’s not Missy.”
Over the comments section, fans poked fun at Jaylen Brown’s awkward experience.
“The players in the league are young lol. This is digging too deep LMAO,” one wrote.
“Smartest man in the NBA couldn’t name Paul McCartney or Sabrina Carpenter,” a fan added.
“Ight. Black History Month ends for him today,” a social media user commented.
On the other hand, some defended the NBA star and said, “He doesn't even care, that's the best part about it, he lives in his own world.”
The same goes for another who remarked, “He got Prince. That’s a pass in my book.”
