Jrue Holiday is a guard every team would want to have on it’s roster. Trade rumors involving his name have picked up in a major way after the Portland Trailblazers acquired Ja Morant from the Memphis Grizzlies. With their backcourt filled, they will likely move on from the veteran very soon. These are three potential landing spots for the former NBA champion.
The Miami Heat are the obvious team that comes to mind, mostly due to the recent acquisition of Giannis Antetokounmpo. The superstar was frustrated when the Milwaukee Bucks moved on from Holiday in the first place, but now he could reunite with him in South Beach. The contracts would be difficult to make this work, but there is a pathway. Nikola Jovic ($16 million) and Davion Mitchell ($12 million) could be used to make the money work. Another pathway would be through a Norman Powell sign and trade.
The Denver Nuggets could easily make this trade work, and it honestly makes a lot of sense. Adding the perimeter defense of Holiday next to Jamal Murray would create an awesome backcourt dynamic. He isn’t ball-dominant to take the ball out of Nikola Jokic and Murray’s hands. This trade could be done using Christian Braun and Cam Johnson. A very easy trade to make from Denver’s perspective, as they look to keep Jokic happy.
The Boston Celtics trading for Holiday would come at the expense of Jaylen Brown, a player who has been heavily involved in NBA trade rumors all offseason. Adding a championship level player would be necessary for Boston to entertain a Brown trade, and this makes sense with Portland’s reported interest.
There might not be a veteran who receives higher praise around the league than Jrue Holiday. Every player and front office wants him to be by their side. These three teams make a ton of sense due to their championship aspirations and specific situations.
