Kawhi Leonard unfazed that media day laugh is a meme
Dan Hamilton-USA TODAY Sports

Kawhi Leonard insists he had no idea that his now-infamous laugh at media day had turned into a huge meme. Even more, the Toronto Raptors superstar claims to have had no knowledge of how things played out after his odd chuckle because he does not use social media.

The entire Leonard laughter meme craze was spawned by his media day appearance last week. Leonard was asked what he would like people to know about him.

“I’m a fun guy. Obviously I love the game of basketball,” Leonard said in part in response. “I mean there’s more questions you have to ask me in order for me to tell you about myself.”

And just a few moments later, Leonard let out one weird laugh.

Leonard was asked on Tuesday about the reaction to his laugh. Suffice to say, the Raptors star is not sweating it.

“It’s not surprising when you’re at this high of a caliber player,” Leonard said in part.

Oftentimes, high-profile stars in sports and elsewhere claim to have no interest in what is being said about them on social media. Kevin Durant, for example, attempts to put on a front in such a manner only to have later antics completely refute such claims.

That said, the case can be made that Leonard, given his quirky personality and extremely low-key demeanor, might actually be one of the few who truly pays no mind to the distractions that can plague paying attention to social media. Avoiding Twitter and the like — Leonard evidently does — certainly is a good start.

Whatever the case, Leonard appears to be ready to put his nightmarish, controversial final season in San Antonio behind him. And it appears he’s in the right frame of mind to do just that.
