Kings Weigh Key Roster Move Ahead of Potential Russell Westbrook Deal: Report

The Sacramento Kings entered the offseason needing to upgrade one key area of their roster and they have been able to do so thus far.

Of course, that area is the starting point guard position as the Kings struggled with it last season after trading star guard De’Aaron Fox to the San Antonio Spurs at the trade deadline.

Sacramento has addressed the situation this offseason as they landed Dennis Schroder in free agency via a sign-and-trade with the Detroit Pistons and they also used second-year guard Devin Carter as their main point guard during the NBA Summer League.

Despite this, it has been reported that the Kings are still looking to add another veteran point guard this summer with Russell Westbrook being the main player linked to them.

According to ABC10’s Matt George, the Kings and Westbrook have mutual interest in getting a deal done but the Kings are still looking to move a player before bringing Westbrook in.

George mentioned in his report that Sacramento is trying to move a player like Carter or Malik Monk before bringing Westbrook in due to their lack of financial flexibility and their log jam at the guard position.

For the Kings, it would be a tough decision to move on from either player as Carter has shown signs of being a key role player in the future, especially with his performances during the Summer League.

Monk is coming off the best season of his career, which does make it the perfect time to trade him due to his increased value, though he has not seen much interest from other teams this offseason.

Either way, it appears as though the Kings and Westbrook are set on getting a deal done before next season as they look to add the former NBA MVP to their backcourt to upgrade their point guard position.
