Knicks Starter: ‘I Was Feeling Too Entitled’

Mikal Bridges had some blunt words following the New York Knicks’ commanding 119-92 win over the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday night. He scored 30 points on 12-for-15 shooting, which anchored one of New York’s most complete performances of the season.

Afterward, Bridges’ candid postgame reflection offered a clear picture of his evolving mindset and role.

On the night, the Knicks set the tone early and never looked back. They overwhelmed Toronto with defensive intensity and efficient offense. Bridges led all scorers and operated comfortably within the flow of the game as New York built separation, helping his team maintain control throughout. As the starting small forward, he consistently found scoring opportunities without forcing the issue and contributed on both ends of the floor.

During the postgame interview, the Knicks star openly discussed how recent weeks pushed him to reassess his approach. As a result, he was able to emphasize the importance of accountability and clarity within a team-first system.

“Maybe I was feeling too entitled,” Bridges said. “But it was something where I had to sit down and talk to myself a little bit, and just look at myself in the mirror and what type of player I want to be.”

That self-awareness aligns with his steady season-long production. In the 2025-26 regular season, Bridges is averaging 16.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game. Additionally, he has an effective 50.5% field goal percentage. Those numbers reflect a balanced offensive role rather than a volume-driven one and highlight his adaptability within the team’s lineup.

The Knicks guard is well-established as a starter in New York's rotation. Consistency and two-way dependability are prioritized in this role and that was on display against Toronto by his choice of shots, defensive play and ability to improve the team without upsetting the rhythm.

Wednesday's convincing victory over the Raptors served as a snapshot of a player aligning production with perspective, a combination the Knicks will hope continues as the season progresses.
