Los Angeles Lakers star big man Anthony Davis has been out since mid-February after reinjuring his Achilles. It’s been a long haul for the eight-time All-Star and the defending champs.

We now have some good news on this front. A short while after Lakers head coach Frank Vogel noted Davis could return soon, the power forward told reporters that he should be back for Thursday’ game against the conference-rival Dallas Mavericks.

This could not come at a better time of the Lakers as the NBA regular season draws to a close. Los Angeles finds itself at 35-23 on the season and as the fifth seed in the Western Conference with only 14 games remaining. It has posted a pedestrian 14-16 record in the 30 games Davis has missed.

The former No. 1 overall pick of the then New Orleans Hornets back in 2012, Davis is averaging 22.5 points and 8.4 rebounds on 53% shooting from the field this season.

Teaming up with LeBron James, he was one of the primary reasons Los Angeles earned its first title since the Kobe Bryant era in the Orlando bubble last season.

As for King James, there’s no telling when he will be back after suffering a high-ankle sprain on March 20.
