The San Antonio Spurs came into Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals with something to prove and left no room for debate. They beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 103-82 to even the series at 2-2, and it wasn't particularly close from the moment Victor Wembanyama got going.
Wembanyama was the best player on the floor all night, finishing with a game-high 33 points. His most electric moment came right before halftime when he hit a halfcourt buzzer-beater that sent the crowd into a frenzy.
Oklahoma City never found a comfortable offensive rhythm, partly because Jalen Williams and Ajay Mitchell were both unavailable due to injury. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander managed just 19 points on 6-for-15 shooting, and the Thunder shot a dismal 6-of-33 from three-point range as a team.
After watching Wembanyama dominate and head coach Mitch Johnson put together an effective game plan, Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson reacted to the performance and shared his thoughts following the victory.
"The San Antonio Spurs were outstanding on defense tonight, holding NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to 19 points in their victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder," Johnson wrote on X. "Victor Wembanyama dominated the game with 33 points, but what really impressed me was his leadership and how he communicated with his teammates throughout the entire game. I also have to show some love and credit to Spurs' Head Coach Mitch Johnson, who had a great game plan and made major adjustments from Game 3 to Game 4."

Wembanyama wasn't just talking about his own numbers after the win. He pointed to the work happening behind the scenes as the real driver of San Antonio's playoff run.
As a series stretches deeper into the postseason, he explained, both teams know each other well enough that the coaching staff becomes critical. The film study, the adjustments between games, the constant strategic back-and-forth. He made clear that the players see all of it and don't take it lightly.
Meanwhile, Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault had already shifted his focus to Game 5 by the fourth quarter. He pulled Gilgeous-Alexander and kept him on the bench for the remainder of the game, clearly choosing to protect his star for the trip back to Oklahoma City.
The series is tied at 2-2, and a Game 6 in San Antonio is now guaranteed. Neither team has been able to pull away, and the chess match between these two sides is only getting more intense.
