Mavericks’ Kyrie Irving stance becomes clear amid trade overtures

The Dallas Mavericks remain firm in their stance on Kyrie Irving.  

According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the Mavericks have shown no willingness to part ways with Irving despite teams showing interest in the star point guard.

“There has been no change in Kyrie Irving’s status in Dallas from what we reported on June 12,” Stein wrote on The Stein Line. 

“The Mavericks have continued to rebuff trade feelers for the 34-year-old who has nine career All-Star nods. The working expectation since our report last month is that Irving should begin next season in Dallas alongside Rookie of the Year Cooper Flagg to at last launch his long-awaited comeback from knee surgery in late March 2025.”

It is an interesting show of loyalty to Irving for Dallas. For one, Irving is already 34 years old and missed the entire 2025-26 season with a torn ACL injury.

It remains to be seen how effective the former NBA champion can be on the court with Father Time catching up to him, while coming off a major injury. There may not be a better time for the Mavericks to trade Irving than this offseason.

Irving signed a 3-year, $118.47 million contract with Dallas in July of 2025, which comes with a hefty $42.42 million player option for the 2027-28 campaign.
