Every NBA star has humble beginnings, including Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton. In his case, his started in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, where he was born and raised. It was there that he started his basketball career in high school, playing for Oshkosh North High School. His senior year, he guided the school to its first state championship.

From there, Haliburton started making more of a name for himself as he started his college career. He spent two years playing for Iowa State's Men's Basketball program, where he was second team All-Big 12.

Haliburton went on to join the NBA in 2020, where the Sacramento Kings picked him with the 12th overall pick in that draft. After spending his first season and a half with the Kings, he was traded to the Indiana Pacers, where he has gone on to make two All-Star teams, two All-NBA teams, and took the Pacers to their first NBA Finals appearance in 2025.

Even though Haliburton has made a name for himself, he hasn't forgotten his roots. On Saturday, it was announced that Haliburton would donate $3 million to his high school alma mater at the dedication of the Frank Schade Fieldhouse. Haliburton explained to reporters why he made such a gesture to his high school.

"This community, this school means a lot to me," Haliburton told reporters, per WBAY-TV 2's Joey Dubois. "I really cherish this place. I cherish the people within it as well, and I know that I wouldn't be where I am without this place."

Haliburton also explained why he still feels such a bond with the community all these years later.

"I think the sense of community is something that's been instilled in me my whole life from my family and understanding not to forget where you come from," Haliburton said. "I think that's just the most important thing. Anything I can do to help out this school or this community in general, I tend to jump at the opportunity to do."

Tyrese Haliburton is the Only NBA Player to Come Out of Oshkosh North High School

Throughout OshKosh North High School's history, Haliburton is the only player in school history to make it into the NBA. They have had a grand total of two players who have played in college, including Frank Seckar and Jalen Keago, the latter of whom who currently plays for Alabama State.

OshKosh North High School is located in Wisconsin, which is a little funny since Wisconsin is where the Milwaukee Bucks play, and Haliburton has led the Pacers past the Bucks in the first round over the last two postseasons.
