With the Oklahoma City Thunder’s quest for a back-to-back NBA Finals berth finally over, talks about what they’ll do in the offseason are in full swing. This time, a trade involving a particular do-it-all New Orleans Pelicans forward has been floated around on X.
While the Thunder does not have any unrestricted free agents this coming offseason, they do have team options for Isaiah Hartenstein, Lu Dort, and Kenrich Williams that they need to decide before June 29. In addition, they have three picks in June’s draft, which they could potentially package to get inside the top ten. Should they need to make some drastic moves in the summer?
Evan Sidery offered a proposed trade on X that would bolster the Thunder’s frontcourt rotation.
“An example of a trade the Thunder can soon offer by dumping Lu Dort’s salary, plus declining Isaiah Hartenstein’s team option to re-sign at a cheaper figure:
Pelicans receive: Aaron Wiggins, Isaiah Joe, Nos. 12 + 17 overall, Future 1st-round picks
OKC receives: Trey Murphy III.”

That’s feasible, but maybe a bit too much just for Trey Murphy’s services. However, if the Pelicans can add another young player alongside Murphy, maybe the Thunder will be enticed to make a deal. But this is the NBA. Stranger things have always happened and will continue to do so.
There’s no sugarcoating it – Chet Holmgren had a historically bad performance in Game 7 against the Spurs. He only attempted two shots in the series decider, which is baffling considering that the Thunder were missing the services of their other star, Jalen Williams. And because of Chet’s struggles, another trade proposal has been floated around on X, with Holmgren landing with the Memphis Grizzlies.
Would the Thunder even entertain trading their young big man? Maybe not. However, Duke’s Cam Boozer is definitely an intriguing prospect if OKC has a chance to make a deal. He’ll slide right in perfectly for this young squad if ever that materializes.
