New York Knicks Sign Mikal Bridges to Massive Extension

The Knicks acquired Mikal Bridges from the Brooklyn Nets last summer. Bridges played in all 82 games last season. He averaged 17.6 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists while shooting 50.0% from the field, 35.4% from beyond the arc and 81.4% from the free-throw line.

Bridges, who turns 29 on August 30, has career averages of 14.8 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 556 NBA games with the Nets and Knicks. He’s close friends with Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart.

New York made the conference finals last season for the first time since 2000. Bridges and Co. lost to the Indiana Pacers in six games and Tom Thibodeau was fired as head coach after the postseason.

Thibodeau went 226-174 in the regular season and 24-23 in the postseason and won the 2021 Coach of the Year Award with New York.

The Knicks’ new head coach is Mike Brown, who has coached the Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Lakers and Sacramento Kings. He is 454-304 in the regular season and 50-40 in the postseason. 

New York hasn’t won a championship since 1973. It will be interesting to see if the Knicks win a title during the Brown era.
