Jeremy Lin’s ‘Linsanity Run’ holds a special place in the hearts of NBA fans.

After all, Jeremy Lin’s rise to stardom happened naturally as he became the savior of the New York Knicks for a brief period of time.

So much so that the Knicks had a special message for Lin after the nine-year NBA veteran recently bid farewell to the game of basketball.

Speaking of Lin, former NBA guard Patrick Beverley shared an unbelievable story about the 37-year-old’s popularity.

Jeremy Lin had LeBron James-like stardom

Following his phenomenal year with the Knicks, Lin signed with the Houston Rockets for the 2012-13 NBA season. At the same time, Beverley also joined the franchise.

However, it wasn’t until the 2013-14 season that Beverley earned a starting role with the Rockets. The aftermath of that decision shocked Beverley to his core.

“I got introduced to the internet a long time ago. I think this is why I’m so used to the negative energy that comes with the internet and Twitter, because I’ve been used to it since day one.

“The day I started in the NBA and the day Jeremy Lin didn’t start, I got so much s___ on the internet,” Beverley said on his podcast.

He added: “I’m talking about, he had the stardom of like… I played with LeBron James in the preseason with the Miami Heat, and then Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh, and the next big person I played with in the NBA was James Harden and Jeremy Lin.”

Comparing Lin’s stardom to that of LeBron James speaks volumes about Lin’s organic popularity among NBA fans. And the credit for that goes to his ‘Linsanity Run’ with the Knicks.

Patrick Beverley had to ‘turn off’ the internet after starting over Jeremy Lin

As good as Lin was during his sensational run with the Knicks, he failed to carry over that momentum during his tenure with the Rockets.

Sure, he averaged 13.0 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game for the Rockets, but he was slowly shifted to the bench in favor of Beverley.

Speaking of the decision, Beverley stated: “The number of people Jeremy Lin had on the bus, when we landed, when we took off, at the airport, when we landed, when we took off, is something I’ve never seen before.”

“He was coming off like the Linsanity, right? So like, when they benched him and started me, they were cooking me.

“I’m talking about absolutely putting me right on the grill. I’m talking about destroying me to the point that I had to turn off my internet,” Beverley concluded.

Even with the support of millions of basketball fans behind him, Lin ultimately diminished to a role player post his Rockets tenure and found himself out of the NBA after the 2018-19 season.
