Raptors sign Malachi Smith to two-way contract

The Raptors have agreed to a two-way contract with guard Malachi Smith, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.

Smith initially signed a training-camp deal with Toronto in August. The new agreement gives the Raptors additional backcourt depth while allowing Smith to split time between Toronto and its G League affiliate, Raptors 905.

The 6-foot-4 guard appeared in 15 games for the Nets last season, averaging 8.3 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 23.9 minutes.

Smith also played 39 G League games and averaged 14.5 points, 5.7 assists and 4.6 rebounds in 28.7 minutes.

He went undrafted in 2023 after finishing his college career at Gonzaga. Smith previously played at Wright State and Chattanooga before joining the Bulldogs.

Smith showed enough during his opportunity with Brooklyn to establish himself as a viable NBA depth option. Toronto can now evaluate him without using a standard roster spot.
