San Antonio Spurs: Did Nike Just Tease Victor Wembanyama’s Logo?
Daniel Dunn-USA TODAY Sports

Nike might have just revealed the new shoe logo for San Antonio Spurs rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama.

The shoe brand couldn’t have chosen a better time to unveil it, as it did so with a commercial during the solar eclipse on Monday.

Victor Wembanyama’s Nike Logo

In the commercial Nike dropped, it showed a field of grass with a text that says “Somewhere in South Texas.” Obviously, it’s referring to San Antonio. It then quickly panned to an alien logo combined with what appeared to be basketball.

As the Spurs faithful and NBA fans would know, the “Alien” reference is for Wembanyama–a nickname that has stuck with him ever since LeBron James called him that instead of a unicorn even before he got drafted.

Here’s a look at the said logo:

While Nike didn’t confirm anything, it sure looks like to be the official Wembanyama logo. Besides, Wemby did provide hints that it’s going to be his logo when he debuted his new “Alien” Nike GT Hustle 2 PE last February. Apparently, he drew the “alien” part himself.

It will be interesting to see what Nike has in store for the Spurs rookie. Wemby has yet to release a signature shoe, though there have been reports the brand could do so in May. With that said, the tease for his logo this April makes sense since it gives Nike enough time to market the Frenchman and his upcoming kicks.

What Do Fans Think About Victor Wembanyama’s Nike Logo?

For what it’s worth, fans are split when it comes to Victor Wembanyama’s Nike logo. While there are many who find it really cool, there are also others who think it’s underwhelming.

“Announcing it during the solar eclipse is A+ marketing,” a fan wrote. Another one said, “Victor’s new Nike logo sparks joy, a game-changer in the sports world.”

A commenter added, “Wemby Logo is crazy tuff ngl.”

“Best logo in the game,” a fourth supporter shared.

As mentioned, not everyone is too happy with it. One critic noted, “Ehh.. having the brand logo in your logo is kinda strange…”

“His is as ugly as an alien,” another one said. “Nothing cool happened,” a disappointed follower shared.

Whatever people think about the logo, there’s no denying that there is so much hype around Wembanyama. With that said, plenty of eyes will be on him and Nike to see what they will do next.
