The sister of Timberwolves big man Naz Reid was killed Saturday in a shooting at an apartment complex in Jackson Township, New Jersey, authorities confirmed.
The victim, 28-year-old Toraya Reid, was pronounced dead at the scene after police responded to reports of gunfire at The Paragon apartments shortly before 11 a.m.
Police Chief Matthew D. Kunz said Reid had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
The suspect, 29-year-old Shaquille Green of Jackson, is in custody and has been charged with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon. Officials added there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Naz Reid, 25, is coming off another strong year in Minnesota, helping the Timberwolves reach the Western Conference Finals for the second straight year.
News of his sister’s death has sparked an outpouring of support from around the NBA and beyond.
The investigation into the shooting remains active, according to Ocean County officials.
