At times, in rare moments of deep introspection, especially in those quiet hours between wakefulness and slumber, people are forced to confront life’s profoundest questions. For example: What is Ben Simmons doing right now?
Simmons is one of the oddest stories in NBA history. He was once a top-tier talent with the Philadelphia 76ers, but he gradually regressed into total irrelevance.
Since last year, he has shifted his focus to fishing, a hobby he has cherished since his childhood in Australia. Simmons even joined a professional fishing team in December.
But of course, the mean seas of the internet will make fun of everything, and someone made a compilation video of Simmons’ fishing highlights, as posted by Barstool Sports.

Let’s just say Simmons is keeping it reel.
As expected, fans took the bait and shared their thoughts.
“Just another example of how he’s right-handed, LMAO. So crazy to me that he shot with the wrong hand his whole life,” said @jeffmckinnon93.
“He really retired to become a fisherman?” added @yourgirlShu.
“From No. 1 pick to catching fish instead of Ls. Still getting that max money though,” wrote @fistfightreels.
“I know it’s easy to meme on the dude, but I think this is a bad-ass thing to do after not being in the NBA. Much respect to Ben Simmons,” commented @QualityEntropy.
“At this point, leave him alone. Not even the worst pick we had in a 12-month period,” urged @porterbump9420.
Fishing can be a meditative experience, and perhaps, it allows the 29-year-old Simmons to feel at peace with what happened to his once-bright career.
Simmons, a three-time All-Star, has not played since the first round of the playoffs in 2025 between the Los Angeles Clippers and the Denver Nuggets.
