Spurs secure crucial Game 6 blowout over Thunder

The San Antonio Spurs made a statement on Thursday when they took down the Oklahoma City Thunder 118-91 and forced a Game 7.

Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs hit the ground running quickly and took a small advantage. They sank eight three-pointers in the opening frame alone to go up 35-22.

Frost Bank Arena was deafening as the second quarter saw the matchup turn more physical. Devin Vassell had words for Chet Holmgren after blocking his shot as the tension rose.

Wembanyama continued to play well, but the Spurs let up a bit during the late stages of the second quarter. After a gritty period, San Antonio led 60-53 at halftime.

While it appeared the Thunder would make it a competitive second half, the third quarter proved the opposite to be true. The Spurs were red-hot on both ends of the floor, scoring 20 unanswered points over a seven-minute span.

A 32-13 third quarter in favor of San Antonio was more than enough to erase all doubt and secure the blowout ahead of time.

Wembanyama finished the game with 28 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks in 28 minutes.

For the Thunder, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander struggled to get much going and finished with 15 points and four assists on 6-of-18 shooting.

After six dramatic matchups, the series now returns to OKC for a winner-takes-all Game 7.
