Stolen Heat Finals Gear Quietly Sold For Millions Over 18-Month Period

A massive theft involving the Miami Heat has rocked the sports memorabilia world and could go down as one of the biggest gear heists in NBA history.

According to longtime NBA analyst Amin Elhassan, millions of dollars worth of authenticated, game-worn Heat gear — including jerseys from the NBA Finals — was stolen from team storage and sold off over the past 18 months.

The stolen items reportedly made their way through both back-channel and legitimate outlets.

Elhassan discussed the situation on The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz, calling it “one of the largest heists of this kind” and hinting at a major breach inside the Heat’s inner circle.

“You never see people with this much stuff,” Elhassan said. “You might get a game-worn jersey, but to get a game-worn full set, NBA Finals, for multiple players?”

No names were officially confirmed, but co-host Israel Gutierrez didn’t shy away from mentioning Heat royalty such as Dwyane Wade and LeBron James. Elhassan’s reaction didn’t deny it and only added fuel to the fire.

The volume and quality of the items raised eyebrows in the memorabilia community. This wasn’t just a rogue employee grabbing a pair of socks. It looked like a coordinated operation, and one that may have included people on the inside.

Elhassan said at least one individual is believed to be connected to the NBA. Another is allegedly tied to local law enforcement in Miami.

The Heat have reached the Finals twice in the past five seasons, in 2020 and 2023. Their most recent championship came in 2013, when LeBron was still in Miami. They returned to the Finals in 2014 but fell to the San Antonio Spurs before James left for Cleveland.

As of now, no arrests have been made. The NBA and Heat declined comment when contacted by the New York Post

The full scope of the heist and the identities of those involved remain a mystery. But one thing is clear. Somebody out there knows way more than they’re saying.
