The Brooklyn Nets have acquired Dennis Schröder and Thaddeus Young at the expense of sending Spencer Dinwiddie to the Toronto Raptors, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
According to Jake Fischer of Yahoo! Sports, Spencer didn't formally file a trade request out of Brooklyn. But his eventual exit is welcomed and well-regarded by both him and the organization.
Dinwiddie has emerged as the Nets' prime trade candidate throughout this season. For 48 games played, he averaged 12.6 points, 6.0 assists, 3.3 boards and is shooting 39.1 percent from the field.
Brooklyn acquired Dinwiddie in last year's trade deadline in the package they received from the Kyrie Irving blockbuster trade, igniting a reunion for both sides after five seasons of partnership from 2016 to 2021. He currently holds a $20.3MM expiring contract.
The Raptors plan to release Dinwiddie, per Shams Charania of The Athletic. He is expected to draw significant interest from the buyout market, especially among contenders.
Schröder, 30, signed with the Raptors last offseason for a two-year, $25MM contract. He is averaging 13.7 points and 6.1 assists while shooting 44.2 percent from the field. His scoring craftiness, experience, and playmaking can provide wonders in the Nets' hopes for a season turnaround in the second half of the season.
Shortly after acquiring Young in the package, the Nets intend to waive the veteran power forward via HoopsHype's Mike Scotto. The 35-year-old holds an expiring $8MM deal.
