Timberwolves Enter Kevin Durant Sweepstakes Under One Condition

After a second straight playoff run to the Western Conference Finals, the Minnesota Timberwolves will enter the offseason and look to improve for the next season.

It will come with a team that can look somewhat different, however, with a few key role players possibly leaving Minnesota to play for other teams.

Naz Reid and Nickeil Alexander-Walker are two players who will go into the offseason as unrestricted free agents.

This won't stop Minnesota from possibly making a big move this summer, and it's been reported that the Timberwolves are interested in trading for Phoenix Suns' superstar Kevin Durant.

Durant, 36, will be entering his 18th season in the league, and it looks like he will be playing for a new team in the 2025-26 season.

After finishing with a disappointing 36-46 record last season, the Suns have made their desire to trade Durant public in recent days, and he could be heading to a new team as early as next week.

It's been rumored that the Timberwolves are interested in Durant, but Minnesota mentioned that Jaden McDaniels is off limits in trade packages, according to Jon Krawcynski of The Athletic.

"The Wolves are not including Jaden McDaniels in any KD trade talks, per team sources, which means that one of Randle or Rudy Gobert would have to be the primary salary eater in the deal," Krawcynski said.

Julius Randle has one year left on his contract, with a player option after next season, but he's set to make $31 million next season. Rudy Gobert is making $35 million.

Moving one or both of Randle and Gobert would be best for the Timberwolves' salary cap situation.

Although Kevin Durant's contract expires after the 2025-26 season, his ability to score while bringing in experience and leadership for the Timberwolves could be the answer to getting over the conference finals hump.
