Timberwolves Not Considering Reunion With Three-Point Sharpshooter in Free Agency Despite Rumors: Report

After reaching the Western Conference Finals in each of the last two seasons, the Minnesota Timberwolves are looking to take a step forward this season and make a run to the NBA Finals.

For the Timberwolves, they have had a quiet offseason thus far as they have not made many moves outside of re-signing Julius Randle and Naz Reid in free agency.

Of course, Minnesota did suffer a key loss in free agency as Nickeil Alexander-Walker signed with the Atlanta Hawks.

Despite this, the Timberwolves will have their core of Anthony Edwards, Rudy Gobert and Randle returning this season as they try to chase a championship.

Timberwolves not looking to sign Malik Beasley

While the Timberwolves are looking to make another deep playoff run this season, they could look at other ways to upgrade their roster and they have recently been linked to one of their former three-point sharpshooters in free agency.

That player is Malik Beasley, who remains as one of the top players left in free agency and is drawing interest after it was reported that he is no longer being investigated due to gambling allegations.

While Minnesota has been linked to Beasley this summer, The Athletic’s Jon Krawczynski recently reported that the Timberwolves are not considering reuniting with him this offseason.

“I do not get the sense that there's anything serious with Malik Beasley, and I would not expect him to be on the Timberwolves roster,” Krawczynski wrote.

Of course, the Timberwolves acquired Beasley from the Denver Nuggets at the trade deadline in 2020 and he spent three seasons with them before they traded him to the Utah Jazz in 2023.

Over his three seasons in Minnesota, the 28-year-old guard averaged 15.1 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game while shooting 41.9% from the field and 38.9% from three.

Last season, Beasley played a key role for the Detroit Pistons off the bench as he provided them with a great three-point shooter in their second unit and he also finished the season with the second-most made threes in the NBA behind Edwards.

For the Timberwolves, signing Beasley in free agency would be a massive boost to their offense off the bench that could elevate them into making a run to the NBA Finals this season.

Despite this, it appears as though they are not interested in bringing him back according to Krawczynski’s report, meaning that they will likely look elsewhere to fill their final roster spot while Beasley continues to search for a new home for the new season.
