Top 5 Worst players in Miami Heat history

The Top 5 worst players in Miami Heat history is a special list. The list is different from the Top 3 best and frustrating players in Heat history. It is defined by the parameters that the player had a lot of promise when they were acquired and their productivity was a net loss.

Harold Miner falls into the “honorable mention” category as he was promised to be a help. His career was too short to include as a “net loss.” Michael Beasley is also an “honorable mention” but he was valuable enough to be on the Heat team three separate times.

5. Hassan Whiteside

The story at first was something out of a Hollywood movie script. Hassan Whiteside was playing basketball in a YMCA and signed with the Miami Heat G league. He immediately impacted the team with scoring, rebounding and blocked shots. He scored a triple-double against the Chicago Bulls in points, rebounds and blocked shots.

Then he got paid a big contract (4 years, $96 million) and “the bottom dropped out.” Whiteside’s attitude was equal to a schoolyard teenager. As recently as July of this year, a social media post of him in a pick-up game showing off his moves got over 15,000 views and 300 comments from mostly Heat fans (9:45 mark of the video.)

4. Rafer Alston

“Skip to My Loo” was a bright spot for fans with his point guard play, but was upset at losing his starting spot to Carlos Arroyo and missed a practice and a game. He was then suspended and then stayed out of contact with the team. The suspension was extended to the remainder of the season.

3. Smush Parker

He was named the “worst player” by Kobe Bryant (even though he started 162 games for the Lakers from 2005-2007) and only spent four months with the Heat. He was waived after getting into a fight with a valet parking attendant. Smush was supposed to be a needed help but then became a pain in the butt.

2. Dion Waiters

He had spurts of brilliance with the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Oklahoma City Thunder and “your Miami Heat” but then fizzled out. He said “he was sick” and then posted a picture on social media of him celebrating his birthday. He was suspended six games.

1. Terry Rozier

The guy got arrested for illegal gambling. He was acquired for the mostly overweight Kyle Lowry in January 2024. Immediately fans were salivating at the opportunity to team Rozier up with Tyler Herro. Then, what happened was that “he didn’t fit anywhere” or couldn’t recover from a neck injury.

The Heat were shopping around the last year of his contract to anyone according to Ethan Skolnick. Rozier would overdribble a lot into bad shots. Now, he is arrested and the Heat is wrapped up “in his drama.” Rozier to his credit admitted last year that he didn’t fit into the team’s offensive gameplan. But his contract and his contributions didn’t help the team at a very sensitive point last season.
