Victor Wembanyama has already become one of the most dominant players in the NBA. It is clear, though, that losing in the 2026 NBA Finals showed Wembanyama the biggest area of his game that he still needs to improve upon.

According to Jared Weiss, Wembanyama is looking to address this issue this offseason by training with Hakeem Olajuwon.

Victor Wembanyama is Looking to Fix His Biggest Weakness

With training with Olajuwon for a second NBA offseason, Wembanyama is putting an emphasis this time around to expand his post game and become a more reliable half-court scorer. Wembanyama was already nearly impossible to stop because of his height, shooting touch, and mobility. Adding on the knowledge from Olajuwon on improving his footwork and post moves could end up making Wembanyama a truly impossible player to stop.

The NBA Finals loss helped fuel this as the New York Knicks frequently crowded Wembanyama and pushed him away from the basket while forcing him toward having to attempt difficult jump shots.

With another offseason of the two working together, they should be able to build on the consistency they established last year. Their work last offseason turned into Wembanyama averaging 25 points, 11.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists. The salsa led to him earning Defensive Player of the Year, and he finished third in MVP voting.

At just 22 years old, Wembanyama has established himself as one of the most accomplished two-way players in the league. Now the next step for him will be to become a player who can constantly control possessions in playoff games. The first way for him to do so is to polish his post game.

Working again with Olajuwon won't guarantee the Spurs will return to the NBA Finals, but it shows Wembanyama understands where he needs to improve to make sure he is at his best to try to get San Antonio back there.
