As the NBA offseason approaches the beginning of September, the main headline continues to be the ongoing saga between the Golden State Warriors and restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga.
It has been reported that Kuminga has turned down the Warriors’ contract offer and with Golden State unwilling to budge, it has created a major stalemate between the two sides.
Of course, Kuminga’s role in Golden State diminished last season after he fell out of Steve Kerr’s rotation following the addition of Jimmy Butler at the trade deadline.
Because of this, the young forward’s role continues to be up in the air entering the new season, which has led to many to speculate that he wants out of Golden State.
Despite this, Kuminga has drawn little interest from other teams this summer and those who have shown interest have failed to meet Golden State’s high asking price in a potential sign-and-trade.
While teams have failed to meet the Warriors’ asking price, Fansided’s Maxwell Ogden recently released a mock trade that would send Kuminga to the Chicago Bulls this offseason.
In the trade, Golden State would send Kuminga to Chicago straight up for Coby White.
For the Warriors, adding a young guard in White to pair alongside Stephen Curry in the backcourt would be a massive upgrade to their starting rotation and would also finally end the saga between them and Kuminga.
Last season, White averaged 20.4 points, 3.7 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game while shooting 45.3% from the field and 37.0% from three over 74 games.
The 25-year-old guard is a great scorer and has improved his playmaking skills over the past few seasons that could benefit the Warriors.
With White’s age, he could also become a key piece of the Warriors’ future once their aging trio of Curry, Butler and Draymond Green decide to retire.
Despite this, the Bulls have shown no interest in trading White this offseason as they view him as a key piece of their rebuild and they have also shown little interest in Kuminga.
This has mainly been due to the fact that the Bulls are in the same predicament with Josh Giddey as the Warriors are in with Kuminga as they have also failed to meet Giddey’s asking price for a new contract in free agency.
Because of this, it is likely that the Bulls would not agree to this trade and if they did, it could cost the Warriors another player or draft capital to pull it off.
