Victor Wembanyama and Giannis Antetokounmpo have been named the NBA’s Players of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Wembanyama took home the honor in the Western Conference after a dominant opening stretch in which he averaged 33.3 points, 13.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.7 steals and 6.0 blocks while leading the Spurs to a 3-0 record.
He did it efficiently, too — shooting 56.9% from the field, 36.4% from three, and 73.3% from the line with just 0.7 turnovers per game.
It marks the second Player of the Week award of Wembanyama’s young career, as the 7-foot-4 phenom continues to make it look easy in Year 2.
In the Eastern Conference, Antetokounmpo powered the Bucks to a 2-1 record, averaging 36.0 points, 16.0 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 1.0 block on a ridiculous 68.3% shooting clip. That includes 66.7% from deep and 62.9% from the line.
This is Giannis’ 28th career weekly honor, and according to Milwaukee, he’s now the first player in NBA history to record at least 100 points, 40 rebounds and 15 assists in the first three games of a season.
The NBA also announced the full list of nominees. In the West, Stephen Curry, Luka Doncic, Austin Reaves, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander were considered. In the East, the nominees were LaMelo Ball, Jalen Brunson, VJ Edgecombe, Tyrese Maxey, Donovan Mitchell, and Norman Powell.
