Yes, Cavs pursuing both LeBron James and Jonathan Kuminga

That’s where things could get complicated. The Cavs aren’t exactly swimming in salary-cap room, meaning some maneuvering would be required depending on how either situation develops. Strus and Schroder are two contracts that could potentially be moved to create additional flexibility.

But the larger point is that Cleveland’s interest in Kuminga hasn’t disappeared while it waits on James.

As Hoops Wire has reported, there are even scenarios in which the Cavs could potentially end up with both James and Kuminga. Pulling that off would require some fairly creative roster and salary-cap work, and how exactly it could happen remains unclear.

At this point, though, LeBron comes first. James has been an unrestricted free agent for nearly a month, with the Cavs, Heat, 76ers and Warriors among the teams linked to him. Golden State reportedly isn’t optimistic about its chances, while Cleveland has remained firmly in the picture throughout the process.

Kuminga’s market has been moving separately. The 23-year-old has drawn interest from several teams, including the Lakers, Clippers and Bucks. He averaged 12.2 points and 5.6 rebounds overall last season after being traded from the Warriors to Atlanta at the deadline.

The Cavs have been linked to Kuminga since the start of free agency. He has worked out in Cleveland in the past, and his agent, Aaron Turner, is from nearby Orange, Ohio. So this isn’t a new name suddenly popping onto the Cavs’ radar.

They’re waiting on LeBron. They’re still interested in Kuminga. And depending on how the next dominoes fall, they may not necessarily have to choose between them.
