PGA Tour Returning To Trump Doral in 2026, Next Season's Schedule Nearly Finalized

After nearly a decade-long absence, the PGA Tour is expected to return to Trump National Doral in Miami as part of the 2026 schedule, five industry sources have told Sports Business Journal.

While the title sponsor is still unclear, an event at Trump Doral, which is owned by the Trump Organization, is expected to be added to the schedule the week of April 27-May 3, which falls between the Zurich Classic of New Orleans and the Truist Championship, a Signature Event on the PGA Tour. The PGA Championship, the second major championship in 2026, falls the week after the Truist.

Following a number of issues, including event sponsorship, the PGA Tour removed Trump National Doral from its schedule in 2017 after hosting 'The Doral Open' from 1962-2006 and a World Golf Championship event from 2007-2016. The two sides worked together for 54 consecutive years before the split.

Over the last four years, Trump Doral was utilized as a venue for LIV Golf, but the course isn't featured on LIV's schedule in 2026. That left the door open for a potential return from the PGA Tour.

Perhaps this move from the PGA Tour is an attempt to get further assistance from President Trump in the seemingly everlasting negotiations with LIV Golf and the Saudi PIF to merge professional golf back together. When Trump was elected last November, many around the sport felt he would be an aid to the process and help get the deal across the finish line. We'll see if this sparks any more conversations

2026 Schedule Update

With a new event at Trump National Doral expected to be added between the Zurich Classic and Truist Championship, the CJ Cup Byron Nelson is being moved to later in May and will now be held in consecutive weeks with the Charles Schwab Challenge, creating a mini two-week Texas swing.

Additionally, with the way the 2026 calendar falls, the PGA Tour's next season begins five days later than it did in 2025, in order to avoid The Sentry kicking off on New Year's Day. The 2026 season is set to begin on Thursday, Jan. 8, at Kapalua in Hawaii, with the Sony Open (Jan. 15-18), The American Express (Jan. 22-25), and the Farmers Insurance Open (Jan. 29-Feb. 1) following suit, just like 2025. It's worth mentioning that the Farmers Insurance Open 2026 WILL finish on a Sunday, since the tournament will be played the week following the NFL's Conference Championship games. In recent years, the final round of the Farmers Insurance Open concluded on Saturday to avoid going head-to-head with the NFL.

In order to keep the WM Phoenix Open (Feb. 5-8) on line with the same weekend as the Super Bowl, the PGA Tour will flip the event with the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am (Feb. 12-16) in 2026. This means the PGA Tour will have back-to-back Signature Events early in the season, as The Genesis Invitational (Feb. 19-22) is the following week near Los Angeles.

This season, the PGA Tour departed The Genesis Invitational and went to the Mexico Open before starting the Florida Swing. But it looks like that will also be changing in 2026, as posted tournament dates suggest the Mexico Open will be moved to another date, and the Cognizant Classic in the Palm Beaches (Feb. 26-Mar. 1) will follow up The Genesis.

With the Barracuda Championship seeking a new title sponsor for 2026, the Corales Puntacana Championship, played as an opposite-field event the week of the RBC Heritage, will be moved to the same week as The Open Championship (Jul. 16-19), serving again as an opposite-field event. The Barracuda Championship is expected to have a new date.

Last, the Rocket Classic (Jul. 30-Aug. 2) will be moved to later in the summer, two weeks after The Open Championship and one week after the 3M Open (Jul. 23-26). The Wyndham Championship (Aug. 6-9) is once again the final regular season event before the FedEx CupPlayoffs.
