3 wildly bold Commanders' predictions for Week 8 clash with the Chiefs

The Washington Commanders are backed into a corner. They are 3-4 heading into three games against legitimate playoff hopefuls. Dan Quinn is also dealing with some serious injuries that haven't exactly helped the head coach reach the meteoric heights of last season.

There is no time for excuses. Quinn isn't interested in them. He's more focused on making the adjustments needed to turn the tide, which should be evident during a daunting trip to take on the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 8.

It's another prime-time clash for the Commanders on Monday Night Football. Not having quarterback Jayden Daniels is a body blow, but the Chiefs won't be doing them any favors as they look to cement their status as a leading Super Bowl contender.

A massive test of character awaits. Before then, here are three bold Commanders' predictions ahead of the clash.

Wildly bold Commanders' predictions for Week 8 clash with the Chiefs

Preston Smith gains two sacks

The Commanders need one of their remaining edge rushers to step up. Breakout defensive end Dorance Armstrong Jr. is out for the season with a serious knee injury sustained against the Dallas Cowboys. Adam Peters has done nothing to fill the void, so the onus is on others to make the improvements needed.

There could be a chance to make quarterback Patrick Mahomes uncomfortable. Rookie left tackle Josh Simmons is missing the clash due to personal reasons. That is an area the Commanders could exploit, and Preston Smith might be the guy to achieve it.

Marcus Mariota throws for 250+ yards

With Jayden Daniels missing the contest with a low-grade hamstring strain, veteran Marcus Mariota once again gets the chance to prove why he's among the league's most accomplished backups. It won't be easy against the creative Chiefs defense, but having Terry McLaurin and Deebo Samuel Sr. back from injury will help enormously.

If the Commanders are chasing the game or their defense doesn't make the necessary improvements, Mariota could be throwing the ball a lot. And he cannot put a foot wrong in pursuit of keeping Washington competitive.

Marshon Lattimore puts together a penalty-free game

This wouldn't have seemed like a bold prediction that long ago, but that is no longer the case with Marshon Lattimore. The veteran cornerback is struggling to find the consistency needed, giving up big plays downfield and also committing several frustrating penalties due to poor technique and awareness.

It's a problem — one the Chiefs won't overlook in their planning. Lattimore needs to play with more discipline and keep his emotions in check. Anything less will come with grave consequences attached.
