49ers announce roster move ahead of Week 8 practice week

The San Francisco 49ers announced a roster move on Tuesday, releasing tight end Messiah Swinson from the practice squad. He joined the team on September 10, 2025, after time with the Green Bay Packers and Carolina Panthers.

This move comes as the team continues to shuffle depth ahead of Week 8. On Monday, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reported that the 49ers re-signed tight end Brayden Willis to the practice squad. A day later, Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 added that San Francisco is signing linebacker Stone Blanton to the practice squad.

Tight end George Kittle recently returned from a hamstring injury after spending time on injured reserve, bolstering the team's offensive depth at the position.

The 49ers are coming off a statement win over the Atlanta Falcons and have shifted their focus to preparations for their Week 8 matchup against the Houston Texans at NRG Stadium on Sunday.
