49ers' Brock Purdy makes big admission about 2022 season

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy made a notable admission Tuesday morning during an appearance on KNBR's "Murph & Mac."

The final pick of the 2022 NFL Draft first discussed an injury he suffered late in the regular season and how it impacted his preparation.

In just his fifth NFL game (and first start), Purdy helped lead the Niners over Tom Brady and the visiting Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 35-7, in Week 14 by going 16-for-21 with 185 passing yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions for a 134.0 quarterback rating. Purdy added two carries for three yards and one score on the ground.

Only four days later against the Seattle Seahawks, on the road, the Iowa State product got San Francisco their seventh consecutive win, finishing 17-for-26 with 217 passing yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions for a 117.0 quarterback rating.

Purdy finished his remarkable regular season run with three more victories (and seven touchdown passes against only two interceptions), before leading the 49ers past Seattle and the Dallas Cowboys in the playoffs.

The 23-year-old then tore his UCL on San Francisco's first drive during the NFC Championship Game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Purdy eventually returned to the field in the second half (after fourth-string journeyman Josh Johnson went down with a concussion), but Philadelphia dominated in a 31-7 win.

Purdy underwent surgery in March to repair the torn ligament but has recovered well. It was reported last week that he was cleared without restrictions for the beginning of training camp.
