49ers Get Encouraging Injury Update on Mike Evans

This isn't going to surprise anybody, but the San Francisco 49ers have seen a fair amount of injuries this summer.

Wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was lost for the season, while Christian Kirk, Isaac Guerendo, Carver Willis, Keion White, Romello Height, and Jordan James are just some of the other players who have or are currently dealing with injuries.

One of the players currently dealing with an ailment is veteran receiver Mike Evans. Evans was added in free agency this offseason and is going to be heavily relied on in 2026. The future Hall of Famer suffered a quad injury during the first week of training camp and has been slowly working his way back.

On Saturday, the team received a positive update on Evans.

Kyle Shanahan Says Team is Being Smart with Evans

Head coach Kyle Shanahan has been away from the team after suffering injuries in a July car crash. However, the coach made a surprise appearance on Saturday and provided a small update on Evans.

According to ESPN's Nick Wagoner, Evans was at practice doing some work on the side with other injured players. Shanahan said that Evans feels like he could be back now, but the team is going to be smart with him.

Evans is about to turn 33, and he's coming off an injury-plagued season, so it makes sense to take a cautious approach. Plus, because of the Pearsall injury, the 49ers would be in major trouble if they lost Evans for an extended period.

When the veteran got banged up at camp, everybody held their breath. Quad and hamstring injuries are two injuries that seem to linger and get reaggravated frequently. Fortunately, Evans should be good to go for the 2026 season.

How Good Can Evans Be in 2026?

Evans is legitimately one of the best receivers of his generation and could go down as one of the best of all time. The receiver was recently picked as a "Hall of Fame lock," which shows just how dominant he has been.

Evans collected at least 1,000 yards in each of his first 11 seasons in the NFL. The receiver would have reached the mark for a 12th consecutive season as well if he wasn't limited to eight games in 2025.

The 49ers are hoping Evans has another dominant season or two in the tank. Without Pearsall, and with tight end George Kittle likely to miss at least a couple of games, Evans should be Brock Purdy's top target. If Evans plays like he typically has, the 49ers should have one of the best offenses in the league.
