49ers sign ex-Commanders d-line draftee

While the San Francisco 49ers deal with the aftermath of Kyle Shanahan’s wreck, they may have their eyes on a defensive lineman in a trade. However, for now, they signed an ex-Commanders defensive line draftee, according to a post on X by Mike Garafolo.

“The #49ers are signing DE KJ Henry after a workout today. Henry, a fifth-round pick of the #Commanders in 2023, was with the #Steelers in the spring and now heads to camp in Santa Clara.”

Henry spent his first season with the Commanders, starting three games and recording 1.5 sacks. However, he moved to play for the Bengals and Cowboys in 2024. Last year, he appeared in one game with the Browns.

49ers still working on roster construction

With Alfred Collins, Osa Odighizuwa, and CJ West in the starting lineup, the 49ers should be solid in the middle. However, they still appear to be searching for depth pieces. They also have Sebastian Valdez, Bryson Eason, and Kevin Givens. Gracen Halton and James Thompson Jr. could also figure into things.

Apparently, some folks think the 49ers don’t have enough of the right bodies. Vita Vea has requested a trade from the Buccaneers and wants to play in California, according to a post on X by Ted Nguyen.

“From a source: (Vita Vea) wants to go to a California team or the Raiders.”

Certainly, Vea would boost the 49ers’ big plans this season, according to Sports Illustrated.

“One of the big reasons the 49ers are a strong fit for Vea is that the team is going all-in to win this year,” Parker Hurley wrote. “Signing Mike Evans and Dre Greenlaw shows that they are not worried about youth, development, or what the roster looks like in three years. They want to win a Super Bowl with the core that they have and need players who can win right now.”

But talk and action are often two different animals in the world of NFL trades.
