Aaron Rodgers has always been compared to Brett Favre. It’s the curse of many teams that have back-to-back greats at quarterback, the same way Dak Prescott is often compared to Tony Romo.
That comparison was only reinforced when Rodgers was traded to the New York Jets in 2023, just like Favre in 2009. Many wondered whether Rodgers would sign with the Vikings during the recent free agency cycle to complete the full circle, just as Favre did. However, Rodgers ended up a Steeler, a decision that has worked out well for the 41-year-old signal caller so far, throwing four touchdowns in his Pittsburgh debut.
This drew one more comparison to Favre and his career — Rodgers now only needs two passing touchdowns against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday to pass Favre on the all-time passing touchdowns list.
Ironically enough, if Rodgers were to do the virtually unthinkable and go two weeks without throwing two passing touchdowns, he would break Favre’s record against the same team Favre surpassed Dan Marino for the No. 1 spot 18 years ago: the Minnesota Vikings.
Now, this is highly unlikely, with Rodgers going a game without throwing a passing touchdown in only 31 of his 271 career games, per Statmuse.
However, knowing Rodgers and his tendency for pettiness, something he showcased after his win against the Jets on Sunday, it’s not out of the question. Considering the tension between the Packers’ legends during Rodgers’ early years with the team, the idea of Rodgers “missing” a throw or two against Seattle isn’t unheard of.
Ultimately, whenever the record-breaking passing touchdown occurs, it will mean only one thing. The only accolade Favre has left for Rodgers to chase (Favre is currently more than 8,000 yards ahead of Rodgers on the all-time passing yards list) is a spot in Canton.
