Aaron Rodgers, Shailene Woodley call off engagement

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers officially won his fourth career NFL Most Valuable Player Award last week but had his name in headlines for a much different reason on Wednesday.

According to TMZ Sports and also Karen Mizoguchi and Steve Helling of People, Rodgers and actress Shailene Woodley have ended their engagement that lasted slightly over one year. The pair began dating shortly after Rodgers split from professional driver Danica Patrick in the summer of 2020.

"It was an amicable split; it just wasn't working," People reports. "They're very different people with busy careers and there were obstacles that they couldn't surmount. They will remain friendly; there's no bad blood and no drama. It just didn't work out for them."

TMZ adds Rodgers was getting "cold feet" about marriage and that Woodley felt "neglected" because the future Hall of Famer had prioritized his playing career.

As Mizoguchi wrote, Woodley took to her Instagram story this past November to defend Rodgers and lash out at the media after the signal-caller missed a game because he tested positive for COVID-19 as an unvaccinated player. It was first learned Rodgers and Woodley were engaged in February 2021.

Rodgers' future was up in the air even before this development, as it's believed he and the Packers could come to an agreement on a trade after the 38-year-old remained away from the organization for much of the prior offseason due to his alleged unhappiness with general manager Brian Gutekunst.
