Bears Have Turned Down Tyson Bagent Trade Calls

In February, it was learned Bears quarterback Tyson Bagent was seen by teams as a trade target. Calls have been made, although Chicago has not moved forward with a swap.

As Casino.org’s Jason La Canfora writes, the Bears have “consistently brushed off” discussions about a Bagent trade this offseason. The former undrafted free agent has spent three years in Chicago, drawing praise for his showings when on the field. An extension was worked out one year ago, and Bagent is under contract through the 2027 campaign as a result.

A $4MM base salary is already guaranteed for Bagent in 2026. He is due that same amount for the following year with an identical cap charge ($4.75MM) as well. As a result, the 26-year-old could be seen as a cost-effective option for teams seeking young depth under center or a potential starting option. Caleb Williams is preparing for his third season and Chicago still has Case Keenum in the fold, but Bagent is set to offer notable value to the team once again this year.

Keenum was mentioned as someone the Bears wanted to retain in a coaching capacity, but he will spend at least one more season as a player. Provided a retirement takes place in the near future in his case, Bagent will become further entrenched as a key figure in Chicago’s QB plans. That makes it little surprise the team has rebuffed trade interest. An absence for the immediate future is currently taking place, though.

Bagent is week-to-week with an injury, per head coach Ben Johnson. Patrick Finley of the Chicago Tribune reports Bagent suffered a hamstring injury during Chicago’s opening preseason game. While that will lead to missed time in the near term, it would come as no surprise if the Bears’ No. 2 quarterback were to remain in the fold for the foreseeable future given the team’s response to trade calls.
