Bears insider revealed more about the injury Darnell Wright battled through and it shows off his herculean effort in Week 6

The Chicago Bears win over the Washington Commanders wasn't pretty, but with a few key takeaways and a strong run game on offense, the Bears managed to pull out a second consecutive road victory.

Speaking of the run game, it's an area the Bears struggled with during the first four games of the regular season. Head coach Ben Johnson was committed to getting that area cleaned up during the bye week and specifically wanted to see more out of his backs and the offensive line.

The message was well received. Chicago had its best rushing performance of the season and some of the biggest runs plays came on outside tosses/stretches where blockers were clearing lanes in space.

One of the most notable standouts in that area was right tackle Darnell Wright, who returned to the lineup after missing Week 4 with an elbow injury. Wright managed to play through the injury and it turned out to be more serious than anyone initially thought.

Darnell Wright played through a torn UCL in Week 6 win over Commanders

During his weekly 10 thoughts column, Brad Biggs of The Chicago Tribune noted Wright played through ulnar collateral ligament tear in his right elbow, an injury that would usually put quarterbacks or baseball players on the shelf for months. But, for an offensive lineman as tough as Wright seems to be, it's a manageable enough injury to play through.

"After receiving second and third opinions, according to a source, the belief is Wright will not require surgery," Biggs added in his report. "The plan, at least right now, is to allow the UCL to scar over."

Wright noted after the game that the pain caused by the injury certainly was noticeable but added "it is what it is" and went on to play all 64 offensive snaps on Monday night. That's not easy and it's even more impressive considering the high level of play Wright still was playing at in that game.

"I think for Darnell in particular, a guy coming off of an injury like that, desperately wanted to play and be out there with his guys, he's just such a unique talent," Johnson said on ESPN1000. "He's so powerful. He can move players at the point of attack. Really good pass protector, but at the same time, to have feet like he has, we would really being a disservice to the whole team if we didn't get him out on the perimeter a few times each week."

"I thought he did a phenomenal job, not just getting the play started, but there was one there at the end where he tried to block two defenders by himself. Which was huge."

Pro Football Focus listed Wright with a 75.7 offensive grade in Week 6, the fourth-highest offensive grade on the entire team. As usual, Wright was a mauler in the run game clearing lanes in space and in pass protection he only allowed one total pressure the entire night. That's absurd stuff.

If that level of play can continue while dealing with the injury for the rest of the season, Wright better receive some league-wide recognition because, outside of penalties, he's playing at a really high level and now doing so while dealing with a significant injury limiting him.
