Boomer Esiason links Giants' Daniel Jones with Netflix's 'Quarterback'

Former NFL signal-caller and current "NFL Today" analyst Boomer Esiason believes New York Giants starter Daniel Jones may be featured in the second season of Netflix's "Quarterback" docuseries.

"Somebody told me yesterday, and I can’t confirm this for the life of me, that Daniel Jones may be in season two of 'Quarterback' next year," Esiason explained during Thursday's edition of his WFAN morning show, as shared by Ryan Chichester of Audacy. "It wouldn’t shock me. It’s (produced by Peyton Manning's) Omaha Productions, and he spent a lot of time with Eli [Manning] in Westhampton. I’m sure Eli was lobbying him to do it."

Eli Manning, of course, is a Giants legend who served as Jones' teammate and mentor during the 2019 season when the now-26-year-old was a rookie. It's no secret Manning and Jones communicate throughout the season, including when the latter was guiding the Giants on a playoff run this past January.

Minnesota Vikings starter Kirk Cousins, Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs and current Philadelphia Eagles backup Marcus Mariota starred in the debut season of "Quarterback" that proved to be a massive hit. According to Safid Deen of USA Today, "Quarterback" spent time last month as Netflix's No. 1 show.

Jalen Hurts of the Eagles, Cincinnati Bengals star Joe Burrow, Tua Tagovailoa of the Miami Dolphins, young Chicago Bears starter Justin Fields and unproven Washington Commanders signal-caller Sam Howell have all previously been linked with the second season of "Quarterback." As for Jones, he signed a four-year contract that reportedly could be worth up to $160M, which generated plenty of criticism throughout the NFL community.

Esiason suggested Jones may want to avoid any unnecessary distractions ahead of his second season playing under head coach Brian Daboll and offensive coordinator Mike Kafka.

"Let’s say Daniel Jones does do it, and he has a bad couple games," Esiason continued. "Is it because all of the cameras are there?"

Like Eli Manning before him, Jones has been labeled by some as "boring." It's unclear if the 2019 first-round draft pick has any interest in altering such perceptions by doing the "Quarterback" show over the next handful of months.
