Broncos Injury Report: Denver will be shorthanded as defense takes a blow days before London matchup vs. New York Jets

The Denver Broncos are going to be a bit shorthanded in the upcoming contest against the New York Jets in London. For three consecutive days, outside linebacker Jonah Elliss was unable to practice, and the team has officially ruled him out of the contest.

Outside of Elliss, offensive guard Ben Powers has also been ruled out. Powers was injured during the team's win against the Philadelphia Eagles. It was later reported that he needed surgery on his biceps and would be placed on injured reserve, sidelining him for at least the next four games.

The only other player with a designation for Sunday is defensive tackle Malcolm Roach, who is questionable but trending in the right direction for the contest. It'll be a 50/50 chance he gets on the field as the team works him back from his own injury. On Wednesday, the team designated Roach to return from injured reserve, opening up his 21-day practice window ahead of the Jets matchup.

Defense takes a blow ahead of Jets matchup

The biggest loss, obviously, is that of Elliss. Since joining the organization with the 76th overall selection in the 2024 NFL Draft, Elliss has been a one-man wrecking crew as a rotational piece.

Elliss appeared in all 17 games and the playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills. Excluding the playoffs, Elliss accounted for 38 total tackles, five sacks, two passes defended, seven tackles for loss, and six quarterback hits. His presence will be missed on Sunday, as he's already added another sack to his resume in the 2025 season.

As defensive coordinator Vance Joseph said leading up to the matchup, they already have a replacement in mind if Elliss wasn't able to compete: rookie linebacker Que Robinson

“Que’s had great weeks of practice and he’s ready to go,” Joseph said. “We’ll see how the roster shapes up and if Jonah really is out. Que’s ready if he has to go in and play for us.”

Outside of Elliss, the only name to watch out for is that of Roach, if he'll get to see his first NFL action of the season after being sidelined with a calf injury ahead of Week 1.

Eliss might not headline the defense, but his presence off the edge has been felt since he arrived in the organization. The Broncos will need their young depth to step up and fill the void overseas.
