Browns insider delivers uncomfortable Shedeur Sanders verdict

Last season, Sanders endured a difficult campaign, throwing for just 1,400 yards, seven touchdowns against 10 interceptions across eight games. He finished with an 18.9 QBR and a 44.1 PFF grade, ranking 42nd out of 43 qualifying quarterbacks.

His 1,400 yards perhaps did look better compared to Dillon Gabriel’s 937 in 10 games, as both quarterbacks threw seven touchdowns.

But that being said, Sanders managed a completion rate of just 56.6%. This figure was even lower than Gabriel’s 59.5%.

While Browns fans embraced the optimism, Bruce Drennan has delivered a reality check to the young QB as well as the Browns fans.

According to him, Sanders must prove he can perform at a consistently high level before earning the franchise quarterback label.

The Browns’ QB room is a mess, and there’s no sugarcoating it, but Todd Monken remains optimistic.

Questions continue to surround Deshaun Watson’s costly tenure. However, Browns head coach Todd Monken remains confident the team hasn’t lost faith in its 30-year-old quarterback.

At the same time, the Browns are also looking to invest wisely in their future at the position.

“I believe our job obviously is to develop younger players, whether it’s Shedeur, whether it’s Deshaun, whether it’s Dillon. Our quarterback situation, you gotta find a way to right that,” Monken said in his interview in an X post by ESPN Cleveland on July 23.

Monken also praised Watson and Sanders, saying both impressed during spring practices and brought a positive attitude to training camp.

“I do think Deshaun and Shedeur had really good springs. I really believe there’s no better time to be the head coach of the Browns. We’re young. Our guys love to work,” said Monken.
