The Cleveland Browns got a glimpse of life with Shedeur Sanders as the starting quarterback, and it looks way less erratic than with Deshaun Watson.
Watson took the field for his first home game since his season-ending injury in 2024, and it went just as well as anyone would've expected.
Browns fans booed him during nearly every play, and once he left the field, he didn't hold back against them in his post-game conference.
Given his reaction and his acknowledgment that the fans' hatred feels "personal," NFL analyst Mike Florio believes the Browns have no choice but to cut him.
“Here’s what we know. It’s a toxic situation that someone within the Browns organization should admit can’t continue,” Florio wrote. “At this point, it’s not about football or analytics or finding a way to get value for the investment. It’s about finding the best path forward for the team and for the player.”
The Browns tried to make this partnership work over and over, but to no avail.
The fans have had it with him for long time, and it's become painfully obvious that he feels the same way about them:
“In many cases, an organization will do only what’s right for the team, regardless of whether it’s right for the player. In this case, the interests are fully aligned. Watson clearly wants to move on. The Browns should want to do the same,” added Florio.
This trade will go down as one of the worst moves in sports history.
And with the Browns still set to take a gargantuan $80+ million dead cap hit once he leaves, they might as well rip that Band-Aid now and let the young players develop in a far less toxic environment.
