Buccaneers’ Alex Anzalone Continues to Dominate Training Camp
USA TODAY Network via Reuters Connect

Alex Anzalone has quickly become one of the Buccaneers most disruptive defenders during training camp. The veteran linebacker delivered another standout play during Friday’s first-team period, continuing an impressive stretch of practices.

Anzalone Overpowers Protection

Anzalone lined up on the open side before exploding downhill at the snap. Bucky Irving stepped up in pass protection but couldn’t stop the veteran linebacker.

Anzalone spun away from the block and drove Irving into quarterback Baker Mayfield. The play would have resulted in a sack during a live game.

The rep highlighted the relentless motor Anzalone has displayed throughout camp.

Making Life Difficult for the Offense

The Buccaneers signed Anzalone to bring experience and playmaking ability to the defense. He has already made his presence felt in multiple ways.

Anzalone has consistently disrupted passing plays while taking away Mayfield’s checkdown options. He has excelled covering running backs in the flat and across the middle.

His instincts and anticipation have forced the offense to search for other targets.

Athleticism Standing Out

Anzalone’s range has been one of the biggest storylines of camp. His sideline-to-sideline speed and fluid movement have allowed him to match running backs and tight ends in coverage.

Those traits have not gone unnoticed by his teammates.

I have seen him roll with Bucky on one of the plays and he ran all the way across with him and matched stride-for-stride,” said Antoine Winfield Jr. on Anzalone. “He has been doing that the last couple days and seeing that out there makes me smile.
