The Tampa Bay Buccaneers faced the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday in Week 6 of the NFL season.

Both teams were 4-1, looking to position themselves atop the early NFC playoff picture.

Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield led his team to a 30-19 victory while throwing for 256 yards, two touchdowns and completing 17 of 23 passes.

He also made team history during the game on a 45-yard third-quarter touchdown pass to wide receiver Tez Johnson. After the play that gave Tampa Bay a 27-19 lead, the team announced the news on social media.

"With his touchdown pass, Mayfield surpassed Josh Freeman (80) for the third-most touchdown passes in team history," the Buccaneers said.

Mayfield is third behind Tom Brady (108) and Jameis Winston (121).

The 30-year-old signal caller has been everything the Buccaneers hoped for in a quarterback, and now he’s in contention for the league MVP award, ranking fourth in the NFL with 1,539 passing yards this season.

The two-time Pro Bowler also has just one interception, which came on Sept. 28 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Mayfield is in his eighth season in the NFL and third with the Buccaneers.

He was drafted first overall by the Cleveland Browns in 2018 and has also spent time with the Carolina Panthers and Los Angeles Rams.
