Bucs QB Tom Brady Addresses NFL Future
Nathan Ray Seebeck-USA TODAY Sports

Immediately following the Bucs’ 31-14 loss the the Cowboys in the Super Wild Card Round of the postseason, one of the top questions after were “What’s next for Tom Brady?”

Did the future Hall of Fame quarterback play his last game in the NFL? The 45-year old Brady can still play at a high level, but had the worst of his three seasons in Tampa Bay in 2022 with the biggest drop off coming in the form of 25 touchdown passes as the Bucs’ points per game dropped by 12 points and they won just eight games en route to another NFC South division title.

Maybe he isn’t done playing football, but was that Brady’s last game as a Buccaneer?

Only time will tell. Brady addressed after the game when he’ll start his decision making process.

“I’m going to go home and get a good night’s sleep,” Brady said. “As good as I can tonight. [There] has been a lot of focus on this game, so yeah. It’s just been one day at a time – truly.”

If we learned anything from last offseason up until the finish of this year, there are going to but twists and turns. Brady retired and then un-retired a little over a month later. In training camp, Brady had a 10-day hiatus to be with his family, as he was going through a divorce behind the scenes, while Blaine Gabbert and Kyle Trask got all the reps. The storylines continued into the 2022 campaign as Brady and his wife Gisele Bundchen announced that they had amicably divorced after 13-years together near the middle of the season.

As the Bucs had an up-and-down season on the way to an 8-9 record and winning the division, Brady continued to break records, which included them most career passing completions (490) and attempts (733) in NFL history. He also moved to second all-time in franchise history for touchdown passes with 108 – a standout number considering he’s done it in three seasons.

After the game Brady reflected on the season that he and the organization had.

“Yeah, I think there’s lessons for all of us in every year, of every year of our life,” Brady said. “You always want every year to end great, unfortunately in sports, it doesn’t work that way. There are 32 teams in the league and they’re all very competitive. Only one of them is really going to really feel good at the end of the year. So, for as may teams that won [this week], there’s going to be seven of the eight that don’t feel great at the end of the year. That’s why it feels good when you’re on top – when you win it all. It’s a great feeling.”

Brady Grateful For The Season

We’ve seen Brady far more dejected after a loss before than he was after Monday night’s game in his post-game press conference. He wasn’t necessarily upbeat, but Brady seemed to take everything in stride when talking about the game.

In a statement that is sure to be dissected a million different ways about what that means for his playing career, Brady took a moment to thank everyone in attendance and express his love for the Bucs organization.

“I just want to say thank you guys for everything this year,” Brady said. “I really appreciate all of your effort and I know it’s hard for you guys, too. It’s hard for us players to make it through and you guys have a tough job. I appreciate all you guys do to cover us and everyone who watches and [is] a big fan of the sport, we’re very grateful for everyone’s support. Hopefully… I love this organization, it’s a great place to be. Thank you everybody for welcoming me – all you regulars – and just very grateful for the respect and hope I gave the same thing back to guys, so thank you very much. Appreciate it.”

If Brady, who will be an unrestricted free agent, returns to Tampa Bay four a fourth year and a 24th season in the league he will be doing so with a new offensive coordinator. Pewter Report reports that the Bucs are expected to fire offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich now that the season has concluded.
