The Buffalo Bills used their bye week to reshuffle the practice squad, parting ways with cornerback A.J. Woods to clear room for the return of Tre’Davious White, the team announced.
Buffalo enters the break at 5-1 after a 33-30 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders, yet the secondary has been a lingering concern that the organization hopes to address with familiar experience.
Woods, a three-year veteran who has yet to appear in a regular-season game, arrived on the Bills’ practice squad on October 6 after the Atlanta Falcons released him during final roster cuts.
The undrafted free agent out of Pittsburgh had previously spent time with the Washington Commanders, the Philadelphia Eagles—where he earned a Super Bowl ring while remaining on the practice squad—the Denver Broncos, and the Falcons.
At Pitt, he contributed steadily over five seasons, finishing with 105 tackles, two sacks, and four interceptions, including a senior year that produced 30 tackles, two sacks, and one interception.
Despite the college production and steady practice-squad work, he never earned a regular-season snap in the NFL.
The corresponding move brings White back to Buffalo for a third stint.
Drafted by the Bills in 2017, he spent the bulk of his career in western New York before a brief 2024 detour that included stops with the Baltimore Ravens and Los Angeles Rams.
He returned last season and started all 16 regular-season games, recording 40 tackles, 10 passes defensed, and one interception while also appearing in two playoff contests.
According to reporting, White declined other opportunities to rejoin the Bills.
He will use the practice squad to familiarize himself with coordinator Jim Leonhard’s scheme before the team is expected to elevate him to the active roster.
With the bye providing an extra week of preparation, the addition gives Buffalo a known quantity at corner while the defense continues to search for consistency in the secondary.
The Bills host the Ravens in Week 8, and the organization appears intent on using the interim to strengthen a unit that has drawn scrutiny despite the team’s strong overall start.
Whether White’s presence translates into improved coverage once he joins the active roster remains to be seen, but the swap signals a preference for veteran continuity over another developmental option on the practice squad.
