The Arizona Cardinals are attempting to spark excitement despite not knowing who’ll be Mike LaFleur’s quarterback. What’s inevitable is Jeremiyah Love will get the football. Leading to offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett to drop an intriguing take ahead of NFL Training Camp.

Yet Hackett didn’t come across as a coach glorifying the prized NFL Draft selection. He instead namedropped another running back.

“I’m really excited about it. Excited for James [Conner] to get out there and show what he’s got. I mean, all the guys,” Hackett said. “Right now, we’re trying to work on that operation

But as for Love, Hackett simply said: “He’s a definitely a rookie. And he’ll keep growing every single day.”

That can interpret as Hackett sill needing to see more from the former Notre Dame star. This despite landing as the No. 3 overall pick. Or, the former Denver Broncos head coach simply is being mum of giving too much away of Love’s potential.

The offense became stagnant under the previous regime, fueling the Love pick. Arizona turned more to a defensive identity with Jonathan Gannon as the head coach. Ultimately Arizona struggled to gain any offensive footing and relied more on trusting Conner, even over former quarterback Kyler Murray.

So LaFleur’s hire is expected to inject new life into that side of the ball. Especially as someone who spent time working with distinguished offensive minds Kyle Shanahan and Sean McVay with the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams, respectively. Love and Conner will be needed to ease the tensions of finding a permanent starting QB.
