Los Angeles Chargers' wide receiver Quentin Johnston suffered a scary moment in Saturday’s preseason clash against the Los Angeles Rams. On just the third play from scrimmage, Johnston was blindsided while trying to haul in a pass from Justin Herbert, colliding with Rams' defender Tanner Ingle, leaving him motionless on the turf and sparking panic among fans at SoFi Stadium.
Reporters on the scene shared cautious optimism. Daniel Popper of The Athletic noted Johnston was “moving his hands, arms and legs while he is being treated on the field,” while AP’s Greg Be acham reported he was “standing up and talking to doctors.”
Though walked to the cart without assistance, Johnston was later transported to the hospital for further evaluation. Head coach Jim Harbaugh confirmed that the 23-year-old has been diagnosed with a concussion.
This is a major blow for the Chargers, with Johnston still dealing with lingering symptoms as the season approaches.

The former first-round pick has struggled with consistency, posting 55 catches for 711 yards and eight touchdowns in 2024, but was expected to play a key role alongside Keenan Allen and rising star Ladd McConkey. His recovery timeline remai ns uncertain, casting doubt on his early-season availability.
As the Chargers near final roster cuts, some storylines are clear. Caleb Murphy has emerged as a preseason standout, with head coach Jim Harbaugh even crediting him with three sacks against the Saints, saying his effort “deserved credit for all three.” His push for a roster spot adds depth behind Khalil Mack and Tuli Tuipulotu.
On the flip side, several draft picks are on the chopping block. Brenden Rice has slid down the depth chart, Ja’Sir Taylor’s coverage struggles persist, and rookie Trikweze Bridges has been exposed in preseason action. All three seem destined to miss the 53-man roster.
