At this point in the NFL offseason, most teams’ rosters are nearly completely formed as they gear up for the start of the regular season.
Front offices never stop looking for ways to add talent, but it is difficult to acquire much more than roster fillers at this juncture.
The Los Angeles Chargers had a pressing need for a wide receiver which they have done some patch work on.
They picked one who is wildly talented in the third round of this year’s draft to go along with a Mike Williams reunion.
While it’s definitely a start to rebuilding their receiver room, these moves fall far short of making the unit passable.
Luckily for Los Angeles, there’s a star receiver who could be on the trade block very soon.
The Washington Commanders began their OTAs last week and Terry McLaurin was nowhere to be found as he and the team work on an extension.
He’s spent six years with the team and there’s been no reports of a rift, so the idea of a trade isn’t super likely in the short term.
But the reality of the NFL is that the players hold all the power, so if Washington doesn’t pay McLaurin what he wants then there is a real possibility that he requests a trade from Washington.
If he does want out of the nation’s capital, then the Chargers should be one of the first teams in line for his services.
He has recorded over 1,000 yards in every season since his second year in the league and proved to be a touchdown magnet this past season.
He has never had more than 1,200 yards in a season, but that has much more to do with the quarterback play in Washington than McLaurin’s ability.
Remaining with the Commanders still feels like the most likely option for McLaurin, but his status is now something to keep an eye on.
